Prof. Dr. Jaime Urrutia-Fucugauchi (Mexico) visits IEAS (China)

Introduction:Prof. Dr. Jaime Urrutia-Fucugauchi, former President of Mexican Academy of Sciences meets with Prof. Cui Weihong, Deputy Director of the Preparatory Office of ISRAS and Secretary-General of IEAS (China) on 23th, May 2018.


Prof. Dr. Jaime Urrutia-Fucugauchi, former President of Mexican Academy of Sciences meets with Prof. Cui Weihong, Deputy Director of the Preparatory Office of ISRAS and Secretary-General of IEAS (China) on 23th, May 2018.

Prof. Dr. Jaime Urrutia-Fucugauchi, Fellow of Geological Society of America, Honorary Fellow of Royal Astronomical Society, Fellow of  TWAS Academy of Sciences for the World, Fellow of Mexican Academy of Sciences and Mexican Academy of Engineering. He served as the President of Mexican Academy of Sciences from 2014-2017, and he has been the Member of Science Advisory Council to Mexican President since 2010. His visit marks the first collaboration between IEAS (China)/ISRAS and scientific institutions from South America.


Firstly, Cui extends his warm welcome to Prof. Jaime. Secondly, he gives a brief introduction to IEAS (China), including the background, organization, academicians, departments, research fields, as well as its unique features that differ greatly from traditional scientific research institutions, etc. He then introduces the founding of International Silk Road Academy of Sciences (ISRAS), the kick-off of the Kick-Off Committee of ISRAS, as well as its overall work tasks. Thirdly, he suggests that both sides can co-apply the Belt and Road international collaboration projects through MOST, NSFC and ISRAS bases.
Urrutia says he is very happy to visit IEAS (China) too. He also introduces briefly the features of scientific and technological development in Mexico, and the scale, fellows, working mechanism and S&T cooperation of Mexican Academy of Sciences. Moreover, he demonstrates his aspiration to be a part of ISRAS.
He also points out that currently, the China-Mexico relations is so friendly that exchanges between the two countries are getting more and more feasible, he wishes to conduct more extensive cooperation with ISRAS in the future.
Cui thanks Jaime for his keen interest, and hopes that both side work hard to enhance a close partnership in the future. Furthermore, Jaime signs the documents and joins ISRAS in this trip.
Finally, the two sides discuss in-depth on the research fields with common interest, such as Space-Ground Integrated Information Technology, and so on.
